I met Rayna and Daniel in this book. Right off the bat I liked Rayna even though I found her situation quite depressing. To be honest, Daniel didn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, he was also a sad person for different reasons. Rayna was having a hard time at the beginning of the story because her husband had just died and she discovered that he had borrowed quite a bit of money that she couldn’t pay back. Daniel came in on a white horse (not really a white one) and rescued her and her two boys from having to be homeless.

If this story had taken place during the past couple of decades, Rayna could have just applied for government assistance and wouldn’t have had to marry Daniel to save her home. But as the story took place before cars and the internet, she had to do what she had to do.

I somewhat wished that I hadn’t came across this book. I prefer something on the happier side. From beginning to end, this book is definitely a Lifetime Movie in the making. The author, Jillian Hart, did a good job with the story and the characters. If you want a book to touch your heart strings – read this book. Be prepared to feel slightly depressed during the reading of the book though. This could also be a fact that I read the book in the last few weeks of my pregnancy and under the influence of raging hormones.
